“Matilda” is designed to project shadows on the wall. There is a very bright LED ring between the two layers of the “flower” which projects the patterns in the top layer on the wall.
A few very small glass accents give some extra shape to the flower and the lampworked glass tip contains lights so the light is colored by the glass.
The wood base has complex laminating of different types of wood. Most is basic pine with some hard oak for contrast. The part with dense, wavy grain in the middle is inlayed in the other laminated core and then the whole thing is burned with a torch to bring out the grain. I made sure to include some nice natural knots on the opposing sides of the inlayed pine. The base was then stained and finished with a nice glossy clear.
